Red Arrows’ Legendary Hawk Jet Fetches £90,000 at Auction
The iconic BAE Hawk T1A XX306, once the pride of the Red Arrows and the final jet to leave RAF Scampton, has been snapped up for a cool £90,000. The sale took place at a live auction held by GPSV Specialist Vehicle Auctions.
The Last of Its Kind at RAF Scampton
Known famously as the “Gate Guardian” of RAF Scampton, this historic jet marked the end of an era when the base closed. Retired from flying duty in 2012, the Hawk T1A XX306 spent three years in storage before being restored for display at RAF Scampton in 2015, with a slick cosmetic refurb at RAF Cranwell.
Flying History to Behold
First handed over to the RAF at RAF Valley in May 1980, the jet soon moved to RAF Kemble. Over its storied career, the Hawk racked up an impressive 7,378 hours and 15 minutes of flight time, and touched down 13,007 times—testament to its toughness and legacy.
What You Need to Know Before Buying
- The jet was sold without an engine or flight logs, making it off-limits for amateur pilots or those dreaming of taking to the skies again.
- The new owner of this historic Red Arrows machine remains a mystery.
