Chaos on Eastern Road as Burst Sewer Forces Traffic Shutdown
Eastern Road in Portsmouth is shut once again after a burst sewer wreaked havoc on the A2030. Engineers raced to fix the leak, but not before causing major traffic chaos.
Road Closures Hit Both Directions
The southbound route of the A2030 is fully closed between Anchorage Road and the roundabout. Plus, one northbound lane is also blocked. The leak sprung in the very spot Southern Water had recently repaired, Portsmouth City Council confirmed.
Flooding Sparks Safety Fears
Water flooding the road has sparked safety concerns for drivers. Southern Water tankers are on-site, pumping out floodwaters to assess damage. Good news for walkers and cyclists: footpaths and cycle lanes remain open.
Repairs in March Didn’t Stop New Burst
Southern Water carried out a major sewer repair project in March to prevent spills. But that effort appears in vain as this fresh burst disrupts traffic and adds frustration for motorists.
Drivers are warned to expect delays and should plan alternative routes while Eastern Road stays closed.
