Emergency Sewer Repair to Slam Eastern Road in Portsmouth This Week
Prepare for a major squeeze on Portsmouth’s Eastern Road (A2030) as emergency repairs on a burst sewer main kick off from 8pm on Thursday, 14 December, running straight through to Sunday night, 17 December. Southbound traffic will be shut down from the Farlington Roundabout junction to Anchorage Road.
Timing to Dodge Pompey Match Chaos and Christmas Rush
The repair works were carefully scheduled to avoid clash with busy Pompey FC home games and peak holiday rushes. But don’t expect any night-time fixes – workers must dig out the site, and the new asphalt surface needs time to properly cure before reopening the road safely.
Plan Ahead: Diversions and Delays Expected
Commuters and residents should brace for heavy traffic and allow extra travel time. Diversions will steer vehicles via Portsbridge Roundabout and the A27 slip road.
- Road Closure: Eastern Road southbound closed from Farlington Roundabout (A27 junction) to Anchorage Road, 8pm Thursday to end of Sunday 17 Dec.
- Access: A27 slip road to Farlington Roundabout remains open, offering access to Farlington and Drayton.
- Footpaths & Cycleways: West side path from Walton Road over Farlington Roundabout to Anchorage Road closed. Footpath access from Blakesley Gardens and Wilby Lane also shut. East side shared cycle/footpath stays open, including signal-controlled crossings.
Local Authorities Working Together
Southern Water apologises for the disruption caused. They’re collaborating closely with National Highways, Portsmouth City Council, and Colas, the local road network managers, to manage traffic and minimise chaos.
