Three Lifeboats Race to the Rescue
Three lifeboats launched immediately after reports of a fire aboard the Irish Ferries vessel Isle of Innisfree, which was crossing the English Channel. The blaze, believed to have started in the engine room, has been contained.
Passengers Safe, No Injuries Reported
The ferry carries 94 passengers and 89 crew members. HM Coastguard confirmed: “All passengers and crew have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported.” Lifeboats from Dungeness, Dover, and Ramsgate, plus a French salvage tug, rushed to assist.
Ferry Anchored, Technical Issues Ongoing
The Isle of Innisfree is now anchored mid-Channel as emergency teams monitor the situation closely. HM Coastguard added, “The fire has been put out, but the ship is experiencing technical difficulties.
Irish Ferries Apologises for Disruption
Irish Ferries released a statement assuring that crews are well-trained for emergencies and acted swiftly to extinguish the fire. They said: “Passengers on the 19.25 Calais-Dover sailing will be transferred to alternative departures. We apologise sincerely for the inconvenience caused.”
