Selsey Coastguard Teams Rush In After Live Ordnance Found at Medmerry Beach
Selsey Coastguard squads sprang into action on Saturday morning when a member of the public discovered live ordnance on Medmerry Beach.
Beach Locked Down for Safety
Authorities immediately set up a cordon and shut the beach to the public. During a thorough search, more suspicious items were uncovered and reported to the Royal Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
Specialist Team Handles Explosives
The bomb squad from portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth arrived to assess and secure the dangerous finds. They safely carried out a controlled explosion just after 2.30pm, neutralising the threat to beachgoers and residents.
Coastguard Warns Public: Don’t Touch Suspicious Objects
- If you spot any ordnance or unknown items on the beach, do not touch.
- Call 999 immediately and ask for the Coastguard.
- Ordnance can come in many sizes and is often highly explosive.
“The coast and the sea can catch you out whether you’re local or not. Our message remains: call 999 Coastguard if you’re in trouble. Please help us and our families stay safe. Be aware of the risks, keep your distance.”
