Selsey RNLI Lifeboat Launches After Reports of Stranded Tide Victims
Selsey RNLI sprang into action yesterday morning after reports that two people were trapped by the tide on the Kirk Arrow shingle bank.
Quick Response, But No Sign of Anyone
The D class inshore lifeboat was launched promptly at 10:52am on Tuesday, November 29. A concerned member of the public alerted the station mechanic after spotting two figures stranded on the shingle bank. The Coxswain immediately contacted the UK Coastguard, who requested the lifeboat launch.
Arriving on scene at 10:55am, the crew found no sign of the missing individuals. They approached the nearby beach where locals reported seeing what looked like people on the bank – but these figures vanished on a second glance, revealed as birds instead.
False Alarm, But Well Intentioned
The Coastguard was informed and gave the all-clear to stand down the lifeboat after a thorough search. Conditions were calm with a gentle NNE wind at force 3-4, smooth seas, and overcast skies.
The crew returned to the station by 11:07am and quickly stood down. The incident was officially recorded as a false alarm with good intent.
