Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has launched a full-scale inquiry into a shocking two-vehicle crash near Ashford. The smash-up has left lives hanging in the balance and roads blocked.
Van and HGV Collide on Great Chart Bypass
The drama unfolded early Monday morning when a white Mercedes Sprinter flatbed works van, carrying barriers and drainage pipes, slammed into a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) on the Great Chart Bypass.
The impact was severe, spilling the van’s heavy load across the carriageway and creating a dangerous hazard for other road users.
Emergency Crews Race to Scene
Firefighters, paramedics, and police descended on the crash site immediately. Three fire engines and an officer from Kent Fire and Rescue rushed in to tackle the chaos.
Rescuers faced a tough challenge— the van driver was trapped inside the wreckage. Specialist cutting tools were needed to free the driver from the mangled vehicle.
Road Closure and Investigation Underway
Kent Police have shut down the road near Wynvern School Roundabout as they probe the crash’s cause. Traffic in the area remains heavily disrupted.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance behind the wheel,” a police spokesperson said.
