Sinkhole Swallows Road on Isle of Wight
A sinkhole about a metre wide has suddenly appeared between Firestone Copse and Briddlesford, sparking an urgent road closure.
Emergency Repairs Underway
The closure remained in place until 10.30pm on Tuesday, June 26, while council contractors rushed to make the road safe. The cause of the sinkhole is still a mystery.

Island Roads confirmed they are working closely with utility companies to get to the bottom of the problem and prevent future collapses.
