Sprinklers Save the Day in Portsea Flat Blaze

A kitchen fire on the first floor of a high-rise flat in Portsea was swiftly put out thanks to the building’s sprinkler system. Fire crews from Southsea Fire Station rushed to the Harbour Ridge block on Queen Street last Saturday, only to find the blaze already contained.

Sprinklers Prove Their Worth After Grenfell

The incident comes just months after the devastating Grenfell Tower fire in London, reigniting calls for better fire safety. Hampshire Chief Fire Officer Curry hammered home the message: “Time and again, sprinklers have been proven to prevent the spread of fire in buildings and drastically reduce the threat to life.”

Hampshire Fire Service Pushes for High-Rise Safety

Hampshire’s fire service is now working closely with high-rise building owners and landlords to ensure all blocks are inspected and safe for residents. Officer Curry urged residents living in high rises to stay informed: “If you live in a high-rise building and want more information, visit the high-rise safety page on Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s website.”
