Strictly’s Adam Thomas Opens Up About Rheumatoid Arthritis Battle
Waterloo Road and Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has revealed a tough personal battle. The 35-year-old actor, fresh off the announcement he’s joining this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, has been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
From Pain to Positivity
pIn a heartfelt Instagram post, Adam shared a family selfie with his wife Caroline Daly and their two children, Teddy and Elsie-Rose. He opened up about the painful reality of RA, a chronic condition causing swelling and stiffness in joints, especially hands, wrists, feet, and more.
Adam explained how the agony started with his knees early this year and then spread to his wrists, fingers, ankles, and toes. After a series of blood tests and check-ups, the diagnosis was confirmed. “I had it in my head that rheumatoid arthritis was an older person’s illness,” he admitted. “But it hit me — and it’s challenging.”
Never Say Never: Fighting Fit for Strictly
Despite the setbacks, Adam remains upbeat. He’s determined to control the condition and keep his fitness up, especially with the demanding training Strictly requires. He called the timing of the show “serendipitous,” adding he plans to treasure every moment — even the simple joys of playing with his kids.
“Thanks to my amazing family for their support during this tough time. To anyone facing similar battles, seek help, stay strong, and keep positive.”
