Sussex Uni Students Stage Disabled Access Protest Outside Library

Stairway to Frustration

This Wednesday, December 5th, University of Sussex students hit the streets outside the main library to protest poor disabled access. The current entry is a steep flight of stairs, a major hurdle for anyone with mobility issues.

7-Minute Detour Sparks Outrage

The official step-free route is a long, winding trek – our reporter clocked it at 7 minutes and 7 seconds. Students say this is simply unacceptable when the main entrance is so inaccessible.

Clear Signage Demanded

Protesters urged both students and staff to use the disabled route to highlight the problem. One student told Sussex News:

“We are here today to protest inadequate signage around Sussex University’s Library. We are asking for adequate signage to be put around campus that shows both the shortcut and non-shortcut routes to our library because every student should be able to access our library as well as members of the public.”

Their call is clear: improved signs and easier access now.
