Teen Dies After Being Struck by Train at Sturry Station
A teenager has tragically died after being hit by a train at Sturry Station near Canterbury, Kent, this evening. Emergency crews declared the teen dead at the scene.
Shock on the Platform as Train Hits Teen
The fatal incident involved the 5.39pm Charing Cross train as it pulled out of Sturry Station. Eyewitnesses say the train came to a sudden halt halfway into the platform after hitting the youngster on the platform itself.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a casualty on the tracks at around 7.30pm. Paramedics attended but sadly could not save the teen. Officers are now working to identify the victim and inform their next of kin.
Train Delays and Driver in Shock
The tragedy has caused major disruption with trains along the route facing delays until at least 10.30pm. Services from Ashford to Ramsgate are being diverted via Dover Priory, while trains between Ramsgate and London are rerouted away from Canterbury West.
The train driver is currently receiving treatment for shock and has been interviewed over the horrific incident.
Family Speak Out
A family member confirmed the young person had not gone down to the tracks to retrieve an item, dismissing early rumours about the circumstances.
