Teenager Trapped in Gosport Mudflats Rescued After Dramatic Rescue
A teenager found himself stuck fast in the treacherous mudflats at the bottom of Quay Lane, Gosport, sparking a rapid multi-agency rescue operation on Saturday afternoon.
Fire Service Leads Heroic Extraction
The alarm was raised around midday when teams from Gosport Police, Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS), the Fire Service, and Ambulance crews all scrambled to the scene.
Thanks to the Fire Service’s specialist gear and expertise, the youngster was carefully freed from the thick mud. Emergency medics gave him on-site treatment before reuniting him with his mother — who joked that he might still need some TLC back home.
Police Praise Teamwork and Issue Safety Warning
“We had Coastguards, Ambulance, Fire Service, and ourselves at the scene prepped and ready to go. To be honest, we felt a bit like a spare part for this one, but the Fire Service used their equipment and well-practised skills to get the young man back to shore,” said Gosport Police on social media.
They also warned the public to steer clear of the mudflats, which can be far more dangerous than they look. “We hope this may serve as a warning to stay away from the mudflats,” the statement added.
Emergency Services Commended for Swift Response
The incident highlights the vital work emergency teams carry out daily around tidal areas. Gosport Police saluted their “Blue Light” colleagues for a swift, efficient job, ending their message with a hearty, “Well done everyone!”
Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, but the teenager will undergo further medical checks as a precaution.
