Massive Fire Shuts Down Major Crawley Road
Fire crews were scrambled to a huge blaze on Copthorne Road, Crawley, just after 7.20 a.m. today. The fire has forced a full closure from Wyevale Garden Centre to the Copthorne Hotel roundabout.
Engineers Working on Site Before Blaze
Sources reveal maintenance was underway at the site. Engineers spent Friday and Saturday fixing the external air conditioning units, raising questions as fire investigators probe the cause.
17 Fire Engines Battling Blaze with Specialist Gear
Initially, ten fire engines arrived at the scene. By 8.55 a.m., West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) had ramped up response to 17 vehicles, including five specialist units.
Aerial ladder platforms played a critical role in tackling the flames from above. WSFRS spokesman confirmed:
“At 7.22 a.m. we were called to a fire at Acorn Health and Leisure in Copthorne Road, Crawley. Crews from multiple stations and specialist units including a high volume pump from East Sussex are currently on scene.”
Investigation Underway into Fire Cause
Emergency services are still probing the cause of the blaze. WSFRS has been contacted for further updates as residents face travel chaos with the key route shut in both directions.
