Terror Alert: Three Suspicious Bomb Packages Sent to London Addresses
The Met Police Counter Terrorism Command has launched a full terror probe after three suspicious packages, containing small improvised explosive devices (IEDs), were sent to London buildings today, Tuesday 5 March.
Three White Postal Bags Contained Explosive Devices
All three packages were A4-sized white postal bags holding yellow Jiffy bags inside. Experts say the devices could ignite a small fire if opened. So far, the Met is treating these as linked attacks, but the motive remains unclear.
Incident 1: Fire at Hounslow Office
At 09:55, staff at The Compass Centre in Nelson Road, Hounslow, opened one package triggering a small blaze. The building was evacuated immediately. Luckily, no one was hurt. Bomb disposal teams made the device safe. The building remains closed while investigations continue. Despite being near Heathrow Airport, the incident did not affect flights.
Incident 2: Suspicious Package at Waterloo Station
Later, at 11:40, British Transport Police were called to a suspicious parcel in Waterloo Station’s post room. The package was not opened. Specialists neutralised the device without injuries. The station stayed open, although a small cordon was set up outside on Cab Road. Train services continued as normal.
Incident 3: Package at Newham Offices
At 12:10, police responded to another suspicious package at City Aviation House, Royal Docks, Newham. Staff were evacuated as a precaution. The device was made safe without anyone getting hurt. The office has since reopened. DLR services to London City Airport were briefly suspended but are now back to normal. Flights were unaffected.
Police Urge Vigilance Across London
The Met is warning all transport hubs in London to stay alert for suspicious packages and report anything unusual immediately. So far, no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
