Tesco Locked Down After Ex-Security Guard Scales Roof in Reading Standoff

A Tesco store in Reading has been locked down after a former security worker climbed into the roof space on Portman Road at 6pm on Thursday. The man remains trapped up top, sparking a major police operation.

Riot Police and Specialists Called In

The ex-security guard, identified as Adam Jammeh, worked at the Tesco for over two years. He was investigated over theft claims but was cleared of all charges. Despite this, he was sacked.

Staff called riot police and a specialist climbing team to negotiate as Jammeh demanded a written letter officially clearing his name. He says the lack of such a letter is stopping him from landing new jobs.

High-Tech Rescue Attempts Underway

Police have deployed a cherry picker and specialist platforms to coax Jammeh down. But even after hours, he still refuses to come down from the rooftop.

Store Closed as Standoff Continues

The Tesco remains shut to customers and staff. Authorities have urged the public to stay clear of the area while the tense situation unfolds.
