Edward Midgley, 35, from Chatham, has been slammed with a 3½-year prison sentence after guilty pleas to arson endangering life and assaulting an emergency worker. The chaos unfolded on 13 November 2023 at Medway Police Station in Gillingham.

Midgley stormed into the reception at Purser Way station holding a jar filled with flammable liquid. He doused the counter, then lit a rag soaked in petrol, hurling it onto the surface. Luckily, quick-thinking staff snuffed out the rag before flames could spread.

After being arrested, Midgley faced maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone Crown Court, where he was sentenced on 12 April 2024.
