Neighbours Hits the Skids: Ramsay Street Era Ends After 37 Years
After more than three decades on air, the iconic soap Neighbours has wrapped up filming. The beloved Aussie drama, a staple since 1985 and a UK fave since 1986, saw its cameras stop rolling last Friday. The final 60-minute episode hits our screens on August 1, marking the end of an era.
Channel 5 Pulls the Plug, Fans Left Fuming
British broadcaster Channel 5, the show’s main financial backer, pulled the plug—leaving die-hard fans bitterly disappointed. Neighbours has been a global staple, but even legendary soaps aren’t immune to the axe.
Royal Fans Loved the Show
Dennis, one of the show’s stars, revealed on Australia’s Studio 10 that both Princess Diana and the Queen Mother were keen Neighbours fans. They’d request BBC tapes to catch up when royal duties kept them away.
“The Queen Mother once snubbed the entire cast of Golden Girls just to have a chat with the Neighbours team,” Dennis recalled.
Big Names Return for Final Curtain Call
The finale will bring back fan favourites from yesteryear to Ramsay Street for one last hurrah. Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who played iconic couple Charlene and Scott in the ’80s, will reprise their roles. They’ll be joined by none other than Guy Pearce, returning as Mike Young.
The end of Neighbours signals the close of a unique TV chapter – but Ramsay Street will live on in the hearts of viewers forever.
