Firefighters’ Dogs Take on 99k Challenge to Help Rescue Pups

A furry squad of fire service dogs are strapping on their leads and hitting the pavement to take on the 99k May Challenge. Hoodie, Millie, Harvey, Ruby, Louis, Eric, and Harley are teaming up with their handlers Andy Earl, Graham Howlett, and Sean White, each aiming to walk 99 kilometres during May.

Fire Dog Handlers Rally for Dogs Trust

Andy Earl, Fire Investigation Officer, said: “As Fire Dog Handlers we live and work with our dogs, so have a real affinity with our animals. Dogs Trust do a brilliant job giving dogs a happy and healthy life, so as handlers we want to support their mission.”

The money raised will help Dogs Trust continue its vital work to ensure every dog enjoys a happy life, free from unnecessary destruction.

Supporting Rescued Dogs Across the UK

Russell Benson, Dogs Trust Community Fundraising Manager, added: “We’re thrilled the HIWFRS Fire Dog team is taking part in the 99k For Canine Challenge. We’re in awe of the rescue dogs and their humans saving lives in the region.”

He explained every penny raised goes towards the 20 Dogs Trust rehoming centres across the UK. These centres provide care, attention, and love to rescued dogs until they find forever homes — and Dogs Trust never puts down a healthy dog.

Follow Their Journey and Donate

The team is using their handlers’ smartphone step trackers to record every paw-step during their walks. When they’re not helping Humberside firefighters tackle arson and fire investigations, they’re helping fellow pooches in need.

You can follow the dogs’ progress throughout May on their Facebook page, where you can also chip in and help them hit their £200 fundraising target. All donations go straight to the Dogs Trust, thanks to a special Facebook fundraising page that covers all processing fees.
