M25 Chaos: Lorry Fire Sparks Massive Traffic Jam Near Wisley
Miles of tailbacks hit the M25 on Thursday after a lorry caught fire near the Wisley Interchange. The anticlockwise carriageway remains shut, creating a seven-mile snarl between Junction 10 (A3) and Junction 8 (A217).
Surrey Towns Gridlocked as Drivers Seek Detours
With the M25 closed in both directions shortly after 4 a.m., drivers faced major headaches. Junction 10 was shut around 5:10 a.m., but thankfully the clockwise side reopened at 6 a.m. As a result, congestion spilled into several Surrey towns.
Motorists are being rerouted via the A3 to Tolworth, then the A240 to Burgh Heath, and finally the A217 back onto the M25 at Reigate. Official diversion routes struggle to cope as many drivers set off on their own detours, adding to the local chaos.
Stranded Drivers and Missed Flights
Hundreds of drivers were trapped in the jam between the fire scene and the road closure. It took hours before traffic officers managed to direct them to exit at Junction 9.
Travel misery extends beyond the motorway: Gatwick passengers missed flights, and even pilots were caught helplessly stuck in the crawl.
