Drunken Thug Wreaks Havoc on Staplehurst High Street
In the early hours of Tuesday, 7 March 2023, 20-year-old Cameron Jeffery went on a rampage in Staplehurst High Street, smashing up local businesses.
Smashes Doors, Threatens Police
First, Jeffery shattered a glass panel on a newsagent’s front door. Not done, he then stomped over to a second shop, kicked the door so hard it crashed to the floor.
Police found him later on Station Road, drunk and hostile. When officers tried to arrest him, Jeffery threatened to headbutt and spit at them.
Assault and Mayhem in Custody
Jeffery didn’t stop there—he kicked an officer during the arrest. While locked up, he spat multiple times and threw his meal across his cell, causing even more damage.
Jail Time for the Violent Offender
Charged with three counts of criminal damage, assault on an emergency worker, and being drunk and disorderly, Jeffery pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on 18 September 2023.
He was slapped with a 19-month jail sentence, which included activating a one-year suspended sentence from a prior offence.
“Jeffery showed no regard for the damage he caused and the financial impact on shop owners,” said PC Libby Ley of Kent Police.
“Assaulting officers doing their job is never acceptable. This sentence sends a clear message: this behaviour won’t be tolerated and there will be consequences.”
