M20 SHUTDOWN: Police Close Motorway Over Mental Health Panic
The M20 has been shut in both directions between junctions 10 and 11 tonight, Saturday 18 June 2021, after police received worrying reports about a person’s wellbeing.
The closure, which brought traffic to a standstill shortly after 8pm, affects the stretch from J10 near Ashford to J11 close to Westenhanger.
Emergency Services Flood Scene
Multiple members of the public called in to report someone believed to be going through a mental health crisis. Kent Police, Ambulance crews, and National Highways Traffic Officers rushed to the scene.
Road Closures Bring Chaos – How to Avoid the Gridlock
Coastbound drivers: Follow the hollow circle signs. Exit the M20 at Junction 10, head east on the A20 towards Folkestone, continue to J11, then rejoin the M20.
London-bound traffic: Look out for hollow square diversion signs. Leave the M20 at Junction 11, stay on the A20, and get back onto the M20 at Junction 10.
Kent Police Responding
Kent Police have been approached for comment as the incident remains ongoing. Drivers are urged to plan accordingly and expect delays.
