London Gears Up for Major Police Operation Amid Protest Fears
Heavy Police Presence Planned Across London
Hundreds of officers will be on duty throughout the day in London. They’ll work closely with protest groups to keep gatherings safe and nip any trouble in the bud.
Intelligence Warns of Potential Violence Against Police
A thorough intelligence review flags that some groups may aim to cause disorder or even target police with violence. In response, officers will wear specialist public order gear, and protective barriers have been erected outside key locations.
Multiple Police Units on High Alert
The Metropolitan Police are deploying a variety of specialist teams, including public order squads, mounted police, police dogs, and the National Police Air Service to back up the operation.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jane Connors Speaks Out
“Residents and visitors to central London can expect to see more police officers on duty today. Officers are there to keep people safe and respond swiftly to any violence or disorder,” said Jane Connors. “While groups have the right to protest, we’re particularly concerned that some are travelling into London with the intent to cause trouble and target our officers. This won’t be tolerated. Our policing plan is built around this risk. We’ll be highly visible and working closely with City of London Police and British Transport Police throughout the operation.”
