Met Police Crack Down on London’s Roads: 25 Arrests in Major Operation
On Friday, 23 July, the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC) launched a major swoop across London as part of Operation Spartan. The target? Violent criminals and rogue drivers flouting the law on city streets.
Operation Spartan Nets 25 Arrests and Seizes 41 Vehicles
The blitz led to 25 arrests for serious offences, including possession with intent to supply drugs, carrying offensive weapons, and disqualified driving. Officers also issued 239 traffic offence reports, which could mean hefty fines and penalty points for careless motorists.
In total, 41 vehicles were confiscated for uninsured driving and driving without a licence — sending a clear warning to all lawbreakers.
Stop Sites and High-Tech ANPR Target Violent Crime Hotspots
This year’s Operation Spartan focused on three key ‘stop sites’ in Greenwich, Waltham Forest, and Wandsworth. These locations were chosen to hit vehicles linked to violent crime across the capital.
High-tech Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras helped officers track and intercept offenders in real time, making the operation a high-impact strike against criminal activity on London’s roads.
Detective Insp. Dave Monk: “We Will Bring Criminals to Justice”
“Tackling violent offenders is a priority for the Met,” said Detective Inspector Dave Monk.
“On Friday we used a range of tactics under the Op Spartan banner to identify and deal with criminality.”
“We will continue to target criminals using the roads and transport networks and do everything possible to bring them to justice.”
