Brixton Tragedy: Security Worker and Mother of Two Die in Gig Crush
Two innocent lives were lost in a horrific crush at Brixton Academy on December 15th. Gaby Hutchinson, 23, a security dog handler, and Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, a mother of two, died from their injuries. A third person remains in critical condition.
“Gaby Didn’t Deserve This,” Says Grieving Partner
Gaby’s partner, Phoebie Turley, shared heart-wrenching words. “Justice must be served, and someone must be held accountable for what occurred. Not just for Gaby, but also for Rebecca.”
“This consequence has come out of people turning up with no tickets or trying to kick through a door. What for? What was the point of that? Because you’ve now killed innocent people.”
“Gaby wasn’t there for the concert. They didn’t go looking for trouble. They went there specifically to perform their duties and keep people safe.”
“The only comfort is that they saved some people that night, even if it cost their lives.”
Remembering Gaby and Rebecca

- The couple had been together for over three years, both hailed from Gravesend, Kent
- Gaby was described as selfless and kind-hearted by Phoebie: “They would give you the shirt off their back”
Community Rallies with Fundraising
Phoebie noticed something was wrong when Gaby stopped replying to messages the night of the crush. The last message was, “I’ll wake you up when I’m home.” Instead, Phoebie received a call from Gaby’s manager and rushed to St Thomas’ Hospital.
To help with funeral costs, Phoebie and a family member launched two crowdfunding campaigns that have already raised over £5,000.
This tragedy has left a community in shock, demanding answers and justice for two innocent victims caught in a deadly crush.
