Over 70 firefighters were scrambled to a fierce thatched roof fire on North Lane, Clanfield, in the early hours Sunday morning. The detached home’s roof was fully ablaze when crews arrived just before 1am.
Road Closures and Massive Fire Response
Chalton Lane has been shut off in both directions between South Lane/East Meon Road and Sunderton Lane as emergency teams battle the blaze. More than 12 fire engines responded, drawing crews from Horndean, Havant, Waterlooville, Cosham, Fareham, Hayling Island, Wickham, Southsea, and Droxford fire stations.
Specialist units from Eastleigh, Portchester, and Alton, along with an aerial ladder platform, were also deployed to control the inferno.
No Injuries but Residents Urged to Stay Safe
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Neighbours have been warned to keep windows and doors closed due to thick smoke and to steer clear of the area. The scene remains chaotic with numerous emergency vehicles in attendance.
Heavy Damage Reported as Firefighters Battle Flames
Fire crews fought the blaze using hose reels and jets, with firefighters in breathing apparatus conducting salvage operations at the two-storey property. The thatched roof and first floor have been destroyed, while the ground floor has suffered significant smoke and water damage.
Relief teams from Hamble, Hightown, and Bishop’s Waltham have been called in to relieve those who have battled the fire for hours.
