Huge Fire Erupts at Thatched Roof Home in Clanfield
More than 70 firefighters rushed to tackle a massive blaze at a detached thatched property on North Lane, Clanfield, in the early hours before 1am. The roof was fully engulfed in flames when crews first arrived.
Major Road Closure Amid Emergency Effort
Chalton Lane is closed both ways between South Lane/East Meon Road and Sunderton Lane as emergency teams battle the fire. Residents nearby have been urged to keep windows and doors shut due to thick smoke and avoid the area, where numerous fire engines are still in attendance.
Fire Crews From Across Region Swarm to Scene
- Over 12 fire engines from Horndean, Havant, Waterlooville, Cosham, Fareham, Hayling Island, Wickham, Southsea, and Droxford responded.
- Specialist units from Eastleigh, Portchester, and Alton were also deployed, complete with an aerial ladder.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus as they fought the flames using hose reels and jets. They staged a salvage operation inside the two-storey building.
Severe Damage Confirmed, No Injuries
The fire destroyed the roof and first floor, while the ground floor suffered serious smoke and water damage. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
Backup crews from Hamble, Hightown, and Bishop’s Waltham have taken over after hours of firefighting by the original teams.
