Massive Blaze Ravages Putney Home After Faulty Fridge Sparks Fire
Chaos erupted on Schubert Road, Putney, Friday night as a fierce house fire tore through a mid-terraced property. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters rushed to the scene, battling the blaze that gutted the entire second floor and damaged half of the third.
Woman Taken to Hospital with Smoke Inhalation
One woman escaped before the fire brigade arrived but was later hospitalised after suffering smoke inhalation. London Ambulance Service crews treated her at the scene before rushing her to hospital.
Faulty Fridge Blamed for Devastating Fire
Investigators believe the fire started accidentally due to a fridge malfunction. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson warned:
“If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.”
“Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.”
Swift Fire Brigade Response Brings Blaze Under Control
The Brigade was called at 9:47pm and had the blaze under control by 11:05pm. Fire crews from Wandsworth, Battersea, and Tooting stations all joined the fight to stop the flames spreading further.
