Snow Alert Hits South East and South West Tonight – Travel Chaos Looms
A fresh blast of snow is set to hit the South East and South West of England from midnight on 8th March until 3am the next day. Motorists are warned to expect disruptions and plan journeys carefully.
Snowfall to Spread Across South West and South East
An organised band of snow will push northwards tonight. While total snowfall won’t be massive, it could blanket large areas away from the coast. Most places will see 1-2cm, with higher spots like Haldon Hill bracing for 2-5cm. The snow should ease by morning but will be replaced by a second, heavier wave in the afternoon and evening rush hours.
Devon Will Escape Most Snow – Elsewhere Set for Trouble
Devon is expected to lose the snow battle early, but the rest of the region faces prolonged and sometimes heavy snow, especially east of the M5 and on steep climbs such as the A417. Accumulations of 2-5cm will be widespread, with hills in the North Wessex Downs, Surrey Hills, and North Downs possibly seeing up to 8-10cm. The snow will ease after midnight, but a cold night with icy roads will bring further travel headaches tomorrow morning.
