M11 SHUT SOUTHBOUND IN ESSEX: Police Incident Sparks Major Tailbacks

M11 Southbound Closed Between Stansted and Harlow

The M11 southbound is currently shut between junction 8 (Stansted Airport) and junction 7 (Harlow) after a police incident sparked a full closure. Essex Police are on the scene, with Highways England traffic officers helping to manage the chaos.

No End in Sight for Road Closure

There’s no word yet on how long the motorway will stay closed. Drivers approaching the area locally face serious delays. Those nearby are urged to expect extra journey times and consider alternative routes or delay their trip.

How to Navigate the Diversion

Farther out? Watch for delay updates on on-road variable message signs. Follow the hollow square diversion symbol to bypass the shutdown.

  1. Exit the M11 southbound at junction 8 onto the A120 westbound towards Little Hadham.
  2. Drive through Little Hadham and Standon to the A120/A10 roundabout.
  3. Take the first exit onto the A10 southbound.
  4. Continue through Colliers End, High Cross, Thundridge, and Ware to the A10/A414 (Harlow) roundabout.
  5. Take the first exit onto the A414 eastbound through Harlow.
  6. Rejoin the M11 at junction 7.

Motorists are advised to stay patient and plan ahead as emergency services deal with the situation.
