Speedsters Caught in Massive Thanet Police Crackdown
More than a dozen drivers were nailed for speeding and other traffic offences during a major police blitz in Thanet on Monday, January 17, 2022.
Neighbourhood Policing Week Pushes Safety Drive
The operation was part of Kent Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Week, running from January 17 to 23, which celebrates officers’ efforts to keep communities safe. The crackdown targeted hot spots known for speeding and anti-social driving.
13 Drivers Reported After Speed Checks
Teams from the Thanet Multi-Agency Task Force, Special Constabulary, PCSOs, and Thanet Local Policing Team stopped over 20 vehicles. Thirteen drivers were reported for offences, mostly speeding.
- One reckless motorist blasted through Pysons Road, Ramsgate, at 58mph in a 30mph zone.
- Checks took place on Hartsdown Road, Margate; Nethercourt Hill and Pysons Road, Ramsgate; and Ramsgate Road, Broadstairs.
Inspector Warns Drivers: Stick to Speed Limits or Face the Consequences
“Traffic issues matter to residents as anti-social vehicles can have a negative impact on wellbeing in the community as well as cause potentially serious safety risks,” said Inspector Ian Swallow of Thanet Community Safety Unit.
“Our officers regularly carry out traffic checks in Thanet to reinforce the message that every road user has a responsibility to keep people safe, drive within the speed limit, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.”
