Blaze Rips Through Building Ducts from Basement to Fourth Floor
Fire Tears Up Ducting Above Restaurant
A fierce fire tore through the extraction ducting running from the basement all the way to the fourth floor of a mixed-use building last night. The building houses a busy restaurant on the ground floor, with offices and flats above.
Luckily, no injuries have been reported so far.
Firefighters Battle Blaze in Scorching Heat
Station Commander Chris Mattingley, who was at the scene, said: “The fire spread through the ducting from the basement up to the fourth floor.”
Emergency crews faced tough conditions, working tirelessly in hot weather to bring the blaze under control.
Massive Emergency Response
- The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received 18 fire alarm calls.
- Firefighters arrived at 6:33pm and managed to control the fire by 9:15pm.
- About 80 firefighters and 12 fire engines from Dowgate, Whitechapel, Dockhead, Shadwell, and nearby stations tackled the inferno.
Investigation Underway
Fire crews remain on site damping down hotspots. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the ducting fire.
