TSB Online Banking Crashes on Payday

TSB customers faced chaos on Friday as hundreds reported outages by 10 a.m. According to the popular outage tracker, Down Detector, the bank’s online and mobile services struggled throughout the day. Even by 3:50 p.m., users still couldn’t access their accounts or funds.

TSB apologised for the blackout and promised they are working hard to fix the problem. The cause remains unknown, but frustration is mounting—especially with it being payday for many on the last Friday of the month.

UK Cities Slammed by TSB Blackout

Major UK cities took the brunt of the outage. Birmingham, Glasgow, and Aberdeen reported the highest number of issues, but complaints flooded in from all over the country.

Credit Card Borrowing Hits Highest Rate Since 2005

In a separate twist, new Bank of England data reveals UK credit card debt soared last month at its fastest annual rate since 2005.

  • Consumer credit, including credit cards, overdrafts, personal loans, and car finance, jumped 6.5% year-on-year in June.
  • Credit card borrowing alone surged 12.5%, nearly matching November 2005’s 12.6% peak.
  • Meanwhile, deposits into banks, building societies, and NS&I accounts plunged to £1.9 billion — just a third of May’s total.

Laura Suter, AJ Bell’s head of personal finance, warned these trends are “just the tip of the iceberg” as rising living costs push Brits deeper into debt.
