Dartford Tunnel Fire Sparks Traffic Nightmare
Chaos reigns at the Dartford Crossing after a car erupted into flames this afternoon. Traffic remains gridlocked on the approaches and at the scene following a fiery incident that saw an Audi A1 blaze fiercely.
Firefighters Race to Scene
Kent Fire and Rescue crews rushed to the fire just after 2.30pm on Saturday. They battled the roaring flames with a hose reel and two breathing apparatus. The scorching blaze not only destroyed the vehicle but also damaged the road surface beneath it.
Crossing Likely to Stay Shut
Officials running the Dartford Crossing confirmed the tunnel closure will likely last for hours. The burnt-out Audi must be removed, and emergency repairs on the scorched road are essential before traffic can resume.
A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “We have sent appliances to a car fire on approach to the Dartford Tunnel.”
Motorists are warned to expect long delays and seek alternative routes until the drama clears.
