RAC Warns Glastonbury Drivers: Forget Your Sat-Nav!
With over 200,000 festivalgoers heading to the 52nd Glastonbury Festival this week, the RAC is sounding the alarm. Drivers are warned not to trust their sat-navs blindly. Instead, follow official road signs to Worthy Farm for a smoother ride.
Traffic Nightmare Looms on M5, A303 and Surrounding Roads
Major routes like the M5 and A303 will be jam-packed, especially around Pilton, Somerset. The scorching heat might cause vehicles to break down, adding to the gridlock. So, expect delays and pack plenty of water.
Official Routes to Worthy Farm
- From the north on M5: Exit at junction 23, then A39 to A361
- From the south on M5: Exit at junction 25 for Taunton, follow event signs
- From the east via A303: Take A37 north to Worthy Farm
- From M4 in Wiltshire: Exit at junction 17, follow A350 to A361 west
When to Arrive – Avoid Peak Traffic Hell
Parking opens at 9pm on Tuesday, June 25, but expect traffic to pile up from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. The worst time to arrive? Between 7am and 2pm on Wednesday, June 26. Early Friday morning could also see major delays as main stages open.
Expert Tips from the RAC Before You Go
“Traffic jams can drive people totally crazy, especially after travelling with tents and camping gear. Avoid using sat-nav for final approach — follow official signs to reach the correct car park and dodge delays,” said RAC spokesperson Alice Simpson.
- Check oil, coolant, and tyre pressure before you set off.
- Carry extra water and food in case you’re stuck.
- Remember your car park colour and number to avoid a mad search later.
- Lock all doors and switch off any lights to prevent flat batteries.
- Use free property lock-ups if you risk losing keys.
- If driving home, rest well and limit Sunday night drinking for safety.
RAC patrols will be roaming the site, ready to help with muddy breakdowns, flat batteries, lost keys, and lock-outs. Gary Hesketh of RAC reminds drivers: “Do proper vehicle checks to avoid overheating on the way. Secure your car properly once parked to avoid headaches later.”
Don’t let traffic turmoil and car troubles ruin your Glasto experience. Follow the advice, stay cool, and enjoy the festival!
