Travellers Move In on Gosport’s Alver Country Park, Families Fuming
Travellers have upped sticks from the DC Leisure Centre on Forest Road and moved into the picturesque Alver Country Park in Gosport over the weekend. Their arrival has sparked fury among local families and visitors, who are demanding action.
Up to 20 Caravans Invade Peaceful Park
By this morning, up to 20 caravans were still illegally occupying Alver Country Park on Grange Road, having first set up camp on Friday evening. Some even trickled in over the bank holiday, turning the once-tranquil spot into a hotspot of tension.
Visitors and Families Demand Council Acts Fast
Visitors, many with young children, were left shocked and angry at the unauthorised encampment. Lauren Park, visiting with her two kids to play, said: “It’s disgusting, they know full well they shouldn’t be here.”
Dog walker Claire Drake added: “It is quite intimidating, they don’t seem to care about being here.”
Council Launches Eviction, But Travellers Stay Put
Council chiefs labelled the gathering an “unauthorised encampment” and have started eviction proceedings to remove the travellers. They gave a deadline for departure which has now passed, but the caravans remain firmly in place.
Angry families are calling on the council to do more, including clamping the vans, to clear the site and restore peace to Alver Country Park.
