Two Boys and Carer Plucked from Mud in Ryde Harbour Drama
A dramatic rescue unfolded in Ryde on the Isle of Wight this Tuesday afternoon. Two boys and their carer got trapped in thick mud after running off from their care home and plunging into the harbour mud.
Multi-Agency Rescue Sparks Action
Just after 1pm, emergency teams swooped into action. The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service teamed up with the UK Coastguard, using specialised mud rescue gear to haul the trio to safety with ropes and lines.
Injuries and Emergency Aid
One boy suffered a back injury after jumping off a ladder into the mud. He was carefully recovered using a basket stretcher by Coastguard crews from Bembridge and Ventnor. Meanwhile, paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance service checked over another individual on site.
From Care Home to Crisis
The boys and their carer are understood to be from Ryde House, a local care home supporting people with learning disabilities. Two firefighters in water rescue gear carried out the muddy recovery.
Thankfully, all three are now safe and receiving support following the terrifying ordeal.
