Starmer and Miliband Unveil £60bn Clean Energy Powerplay
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband have launched a colossal £60 billion partnership between Great British Energy and the Crown Estate. This major move aims to supercharge the UK’s push for clean energy by 2030, slash household energy bills, and lock in energy security for millions.
New Laws to Power the Green Revolution
To kickstart this energy bonanza, two key bills hit Parliament. The Great British Energy Bill will set up the new company’s operating and financial rules. Meanwhile, the Crown Estate Bill will modernise how the Crown Estate works by scrapping outdated restrictions, boosting investment firepower, and enabling borrowing.
Great British Energy: Driving Green Projects and Local Power

This powerhouse is ready to transform how Britain powers its future.
Promises of Jobs, Investment, and Energy Independence
“This innovative partnership marks a significant milestone towards our clean energy targets for 2030,” said Sir Keir Starmer. “We expect up to £60 billion in investment to boost jobs, cut bills for families and businesses, and push the UK towards energy independence.”
The plan aims to deliver 20-30GW of offshore wind by 2030 — enough to power nearly 20 million homes.
Dan Labbad, CEO of the Crown Estate, added, “This deal lets us ramp up investments, restore ecology, and create green jobs while securing a sustainable energy future for the nation.”
Scotland at the Heart of the Clean Energy Surge
The government has pledged £8.3 billion to fund Great British Energy’s new HQ in Scotland. Talks are underway with Scottish officials and the Crown Estate Scotland to ensure the energy revolution gets full local backing.
Ed Miliband said, “Investing in clean energy is key to ending the UK’s energy insecurity. This partnership will deliver more investment, cleaner power, and a lasting national asset.”
