UK Set for Nationwide Emergency Alert Test This Sunday!

The Government has announced a nationwide emergency alert test on Sunday, 7 September at 3pm. All phones with 4G and 5G connections will blast a loud siren and vibrate for up to 10 seconds. This crucial test is part of the Emergency Alerts system, designed to warn Brits about immediate life-threatening dangers like severe flooding, fires, and extreme weather.

What You Need to Know

This is one of the biggest public safety drills in UK history. Your phone will display a clear message during the test to make sure the system works perfectly when lives are on the line.

“From major storms to fires, this system could save your life in an emergency,” said Mr McFadden. “Just like a fire alarm, it’s important we test the system to ensure it works when needed most.”

The Emergency Alerts system has already been put to the test since April 2023, including real alerts during Storm Eowyn in January and the discovery of a 500kg WWII bomb in plymouth/" title="Plymouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Plymouth earlier this year.
