Brace yourselves, England! Millions face a deluge today as the Met Office slaps down an amber warning for relentless rain and potential flooding. From Worcester to Birmingham, Nottingham to Hull, this downpour could drown the day with up to 120mm of rain — that’s more than a month’s worth in a single day.

Amber Alert: Flooding and Travel Chaos Incoming

The amber warning kicked in at 5am and will run through to 9pm. Expect flooded roads, power cuts, and hazardous driving conditions. Lightning will add to the misery, potentially cutting off entire communities. Authorities urge everyone to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

A broader yellow rain warning covers Wales, southern and north-west England, and parts of Middlesbrough, with wet conditions stretching into the evening.

Flood Warnings Hit 13 Across England

The Environment Agency has already issued 13 flood warnings in hotspots including Warwickshire’s Atherstone, Leighton Buzzard, Luton, and London boroughs like Wimbledon and South Ruislip. Bedfordshire Police reported widespread weather issues this weekend and begged the public to steer clear of flooded roads and only dial emergency services for life-threatening incidents.

“All emergency services and council teams are working as quickly as possible to help those affected, but our priority will be the vulnerable,” police confirmed.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue released stark images of submerged roads showing just how severe the downpours have been.

Travel Warnings & Roadnightmares

Drivers face a nightmare with severe delays on roads and public transport disruption. Photos from the weekend show hair-raising scenes, including motorways like the M3 near Basingstoke engulfed by rain-slicked hazards.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver warns the rain will ease overnight, but showers will persist through midweek as more wet fronts roll in from the Atlantic.

Goodbye Summer – Autumn Is Here

After weeks of rare warm weather, the mercury is finally dropping. Met forecaster Jonathan Vautrey says this chill marks the start of autumn, with temperatures slipping below average as the week ends.

The public is urged to stay alert to weather warnings and take precautions during these severe wet spells.
