Gatwick Airport Locked Down After Suspicious Suitcases Found
Chaos erupted at Gatwick Airport this evening when a driver sped the wrong way on the perimeter service road before abandoning a vehicle loaded with two suitcases wired with orange cables. The driver then disappeared into the North Terminal, sparking a full lockdown.
Bomb Squad Called In as Panic Spreads
Sussex Police swiftly cordoned off the area and called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to inspect the suspicious bags. Meanwhile, the driver was arrested by officers on site, and an investigation was launched immediately.
Police are currently managing a tricky situation at the drop-off zone, ordering cars to reverse and exit via the car park to maintain security and keep the situation under control.
Incident Declared Non-Terror Related, Police Thank Public
Sussex Police have now lifted the cordon around Gatwick’s North Terminal. In an official update, they confirmed the detained man is not linked to any terror activity.
A police cordon that had been in place while officers dealt with the incident at Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal has been lifted,” said Sussex Police.
“The man has been detained in connection with the incident, which is not being treated as terror-related. We thank the public for their patience.”
The airport is expected to return to normal operations shortly as the investigation continues.
