Armed Police Swarm Upminster Station Over Suspicious Man

Armed officers stormed Upminster railway station on Sunday evening (16 March) after reports of a man acting suspiciously sparked a major emergency response.

Locked Down At 7pm

The British Transport Police were called to Station Road at around 7pm amid concerns about a suspicious individual inside the station. Firearms units rolled in alongside regular officers, with dramatic footage capturing blue lights flashing as they moved in.

Intense Search Finds Nothing

Despite a heavy police presence and a thorough search of the station, the suspect was nowhere to be found. A BTP spokesperson said:

“Officers were called to Upminster railway station at around 7pm on Sunday (16 March) following reports of a man acting suspiciously in the station. Officers attended, including firearms officers, and conducted a thorough search of the station, but no trace of the person was found.”

Commuters Alarmed but No Wider Threat

The sudden police operation alarmed locals and commuters, many taking to social media to voice concerns over the heavy law enforcement presence. Details about the man’s suspicious behaviour remain unclear, but police have stressed there was no wider threat.

Train services faced minor delays but returned to normal once the search ended. Patrols in the area will continue as a precaution.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

The British Transport Police are urging anyone who saw the man or has relevant information to come forward. Witnesses can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting the time and location of the incident.

More updates will follow if any new details emerge about the suspect or the ongoing investigation.
