Nottinghamshire Police Crack Down on Stalking During Awareness Week
As National Stalking Awareness Week hits, Nottinghamshire Police are stepping up their fight against stalking – an issue that wrecks lives every day.
Swift Action and Specialist Support
The force is quick off the mark, arresting and interviewing suspects without delay. They’ve also got expert teams dedicated to protecting victims and tracking every case closely.
What Counts as Stalking?
Stalking involves persistent, unwanted behaviours targeting a person. This can be in person or online via social media. Victims may be followed, watched, or bombarded with unwanted messages and gifts.
Top Cop Speaks Out
“Stalking has an appalling, long-lasting impact on victims,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jo Elbourn, Stalking Lead for Nottinghamshire Police. “We’re determined to get justice and help victims rebuild their lives.”
“We’re proud of the work we’re doing to support victims and hold offenders accountable. Policing in this area has improved massively in recent years.”
“Beyond convictions, we now use civil orders like Stalking Protection Orders to restrict suspects’ movements and behaviour.”
“Many don’t report stalking because they’re unsure if it’s serious or think we can’t help. But there’s never been a better time to come forward – we understand stalking better and can offer stronger support than ever.”
High-Risk Victims Get Extra Care
DCI Elbourn also heads a monthly multi-agency clinic for the highest-risk victims. Joined by academics, psychologists, and specialist support workers, the forum delivers targeted, coordinated help for those who need it most.
Plus, Nottinghamshire Police have rolled out internal training so all officers know how to spot stalking and support victims effectively.
