Hospital Cracks Down on Visitors Amid Rising Numbers
Hospitals have had enough. With more people turning up to visit relatives or use on-site shops and cafes, staff have been forced to turn visitors away at the door.
Strict Visitor Limits Stay in Place
Chief Nurse Mary Aubrey said, “We get it—patients and families want to see their loved ones desperately. But safety comes first. That includes anyone wanting to enjoy our refreshments.”
Visit requests are now only accepted in exceptional cases. One visitor, usually an immediate family member or carer, may be allowed, but only after prior approval from the Ward Sister. Visitors must also carry a valid permission card.
Keeping Families Connected Without Face-to-Face Visits
- Each ward has phone systems enabling patients to call relatives.
- A Message to Loved Ones service is in place.
- Essential items can be delivered via main reception.
Patients arriving for appointments should come alone unless a carer is absolutely necessary. Marshals at hospital entrances check visitors’ reasons and appointment letters.
Safety Over Everything
Mary Aubrey added, “Our visiting policy has been strict throughout the pandemic and is constantly reviewed. Once it’s safe, we’ll welcome visitors back with open arms. Until then, we appreciate everyone’s patience as we keep people safe.”
