Duck Drama on Eastbourne Road: Quackers Cause Chaos

On Sunday, 15th August, around 5pm, a gaggle of ducks was spotted waddling perilously across Eastbourne Road in Ridgewood, Uckfield. Their hazardous road-crossing sparked alarm among locals.

Wildlife Rescue Squad to the Rescue

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) rushed to the scene with an emergency ambulance. Helping hand in hand with concerned residents, rescuers carefully guided the flustered birds away from the busy road.

They steered the ducks through nearby housing estates to a local pond, a safe haven where the feathered escapees could chill without the risk of traffic.

Escapees or Abandoned? Mystery Ducks Cause a Flap

“The ducks aren’t wild. Looks like they were bred nearby, perhaps escaped or even dumped,” explained Trevor Weeks MBE, founder of WRAS.

The rescue team coaxed the hesitant ducks along Teelings Drive before reaching the pond’s edge. The confused birds were slow to move but eventually settled, happily dabbling in their new watery home.

Keeping Roads Safe One Duck at a Time

“Our priority was their safety and removing a serious road hazard,” said Weeks. We’ve handled odd rescues before – like when Sussex Police called us for 200 ducks loose on the A21 at Hurst Green.

Thanks to WRAS and the community’s quick action, the duck drama ended peacefully with all parties safe and sound. No more traffic jams thanks to these quackers!
