Beware! WhatsApp ‘Free Heineken’ Scam Hits Phones

WhatsApp users are being warned over a dodgy scam promising free Heineken beer. The message urges recipients to click a link to claim their “free beer” – but it’s a trap.

Clicking the link takes victims to a fake website that asks for personal info under the guise of entering prize draws. It’s all part of a phishing scam, Heineken confirms.

“Please be advised that a ‘Free Beer’ phishing scam is currently circulating through social networks,” said Heineken.

“This is a scam, and Heineken does not endorse it. Such promotions will always be announced through official Heineken® channels. We do not recommend that consumers click on the link, share personal information, or share the message with their networks.”

Fake Retailer Parcel Scams Also Doing The Rounds

Scammers are also sending false alerts claiming shoppers have parcels waiting. Victims are told to click a URL to check. But the link leads to sites hawking discounted mobile phones, trying to harvest personal details.

Sophisticated Santander Bank Text Scam Warning

Meanwhile, Santander has issued a fresh alert about a clever new scam targeting its customers. Crooks use tech to insert fake warnings about “suspicious activity” into real text message threads.

The scam message urges victims to click a link to prevent their account being locked out. But it’s fake – designed to steal logins and details by spoofing the bank’s identity.
