A ferocious windstorm has battered the Isle of Wight, leaving chaos and destruction in its wake. Major roads are blocked, trees have been uprooted, and transport services are grinding to a halt.

Trees Down and Roads Blocked

Main Road in Haven Street is completely blocked after a huge tree came crashing down. Not far away, Calthorpe Road is also impassable thanks to another uprooted tree. At Sea Close, a majestic 100-year-old oak has been smashed to the ground.

Downend Road has seen yet another tree collapse, trapping the Number 8 bus and causing traffic misery.

Travel Chaos as Ferry Services Suspended

The fierce winds haven’t just wrecked roads – they’ve hit cross-channel travel hard. Hovertravel has suspended all its services, while Wightlink has cancelled its Lymington runs. Red Funnel has pulled the plug on car ferry services until at least 5.30pm.
