A major crash on the southbound M6 has left a woman and two children fighting for their health tonight. The multi-vehicle smash, involving several cars and a lorry, happened just before 5pm between junctions 6 and 5.

West Midlands Ambulance Service scrambled three ambulances and two paramedic support officers to the scene. A spokeswoman revealed ambulance crews faced a daunting task assessing 11 patients in total.

The worst hit was a boy, around seven years old, who suffered a suspected head injury. Paramedics acted fast, treating him and securing him with a neck collar and spinal board before speeding him to Birmingham Children’s Hospital on blue lights.
Woman Trapped in Wreckage
A woman in her 40s was trapped in her car following the crash. Rescuers teamed up with firefighters to free her. She was complaining of neck pain, and paramedics immobilised her as a precaution before rushing her to Heartlands Hospital.
12-Year-Old Girl Also Taken to Hospital
A 12-year-old girl was also treated and immobilised as a precaution. She was later taken to Good Hope Hospital for further care. The other injured involved were assessed but did not need hospital treatment and were discharged at the scene.
