Yellow Cold Alert Hits Kent – Freezing Temps Incoming!

A yellow cold health warning has been slapped across Kent as temperatures are set to plunge below freezing. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) warns the freeze will last from 9am today (Feb 7) until 9am Tuesday (Feb 11).

Vulnerable Folks at Risk as Cold Snap Bites

The icy blast spells trouble for NHS services, with extra strain expected on hospitals. Elderly residents, young kids, and those with health issues face the biggest dangers. The cold health alert isn’t just for Kent — parts of the North East, North West, Yorkshire, and Humber are in the freeze zone too.

Met Office Forecast: Bitter Winds and Snow Threat

A high-pressure system is pushing strong easterly winds in, bringing biting temperatures, snow, and ice over the weekend.

Met Office spokesperson Stephen Dixon said: “The UK is bracing for a south-easterly airflow pushing temperatures down over the next few days.”

“Rural Scotland could hit a brutal minus 7°C, while much of the country will see sub-zero nights.”

“Southern Wales might dip to minus 4°C by Friday night.”

Daytime temps will hover just below February’s average max of 7°C, so expect big chills after dark.

Snow May Hit South England and South Wales

Some flakes could dust parts of the South and South Wales from Friday, but don’t expect any major travel chaos. The Met Office says disruption should be minimal.

Kent’s Weekend Weather: Rain Then Dry

Kent faces wet conditions over the weekend but clearer skies and drier weather should return next week.

Tips to stay safe:

  • Keep your home heated to at least 18°C
  • Dress in warm layers
  • Check in on vulnerable neighbours and family

The UKHSA and Met Office will keep a close eye on the weather and health risks as the cold snap continues.
