Met Office Sounds Thunderstorm Alarm for London and South East

The Met Office has slapped a yellow weather warning on London and South East England for Sunday, 6 July 2025. Thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, and hail will lash the region from 7am to 7pm BST, bringing chaos to roads, railways, and outdoor plans.

Expect Stormy Mayhem and Travel Hell

  • Roads will be slick with spray and standing water, making driving dangerous and causing long delays for cars and buses.
  • Train services face possible delays — travellers are urged to check updates before heading out.
  • Lightning could smash windows and damage buildings.
  • Low-lying spots risk flooding homes and businesses.
  • Power cuts and service outages are on the cards for some areas.

Storm Zone: From Greater London to the East Midlands

The warning covers wide swathes of the South and East, including:

  • Greater London
  • Kent, Surrey, East & West Sussex
  • Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes, Slough
  • Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire
  • North and South Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Rutland

Heavy Rainfall to Add Fuel to the Fire

The Met Office warns of 15–25mm of rain in just 2–3 hours. If thunderstorms keep firing up, some places could drown in 40–60mm. The first storms start in the west and then march east through the morning.

Stay Safe: Met Office Tips

  • If you’re in a flash flood hotspot, prepare now.
  • Avoid driving if you can, especially through flood-prone areas.
  • Keep an eye on weather updates and travel news.
  • Charge phones and have emergency supplies ready in case of power cuts.

Sunday looks set for a thorough drenching — be weather-wise and plan accordingly!
